Cinderella

Looking up toward heaven in a torn and tattered dress,
She beheld the ways that God lovingly did bless!
There in her shattered moment she felt joy beyond compare.
Within her heart she rejoiced for all that God did share!

Dancing and smiling, spinning with him near,
Lifted all her pain and filled her heart with cheer!
Looking at her glass slipper she saw what soon would be,
The gift of true love given by the one who set her free!

Her joy for what she kept outshined all she would face,
She shown with a grateful heart, as she endured with grace.
Within her soul she reached out to her loving Father above,
Smiling he reached back and showered her with love!

Forever she will hold the blessing God placed within her heart,
Forever she will rejoice in the day they made their start!
Her glass slipper sits on her shelf, a reminder of their night,
When heaven touched her soul, everything was right!

“Happily ever after” is not something found only in fairy tales. You can have it! It is available for you! But you must follow your Heavenly Father’s map. Sisters, please embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ! Learn to love your Heavenly Father with all your heart, might, and mind. Fill your souls with virtue, and love goodness. Always strive to bring out the best in yourself and others. Learn to accept and act upon the Young Women values. Live the standards in For the Strength of Youth. These standards guide and direct you to your “happily ever after.” Living these standards will prepare you to make sacred covenants in the temple and establish your own legacy of goodness in your individual circumstances. “Stand … in holy places, and be not moved,” regardless of temptations or difficulties. I promise you that future generations will be grateful for you and praise your name for your courage and faithfulness during this crucial time of your life." Dieter F. Uchtdorf

To Become

To reach for exaltation with gratitude and love,
To find through obedience my home above.
To stand and witness of my dear King,
To show His love in all I bring.

To stay with my Savior and receive eternal life,
To be exalted in a family as husband and wife.
To return to my Heavenly parents, sacred and divine,
To become like my Savior, His attributes mine.

O how can I reach such a beautiful place?
My heart speaks the answer, only through grace.
Beloved Redeemer please stand with me,
As I journey with faith to all that can be.

At last may I enter and rest from all care,
And partake of the blessings you lovingly share.
O glorious day of deliverance and light,
When at last I behold thy power and might!

A Single Flower

A single flower blooming, despite the winter ground,
A single bird is singing, a bright and lovely sound!
A single child reaches with love to pull her near,
A single miracle fills her aching heart with cheer!
A single angel ministers to her with gentle love,
A single act of kindness sent by God above.
A single daughter smiles as she feels grace,
Jesus Christ with love, brought her to this place.

"We can choose to be grateful, no matter what. This type of gratitude transcends whatever is happening around us. It surpasses disappointment, discouragement, and despair. It blooms just as beautifully in the icy landscape of winter as it does in the pleasant warmth of summer. When we are grateful to God in our circumstances, we can experience gentle peace in the midst of tribulation. In grief, we can still lift up our hearts in praise. In pain, we can glory in Christ’s Atonement. In the cold of bitter sorrow, we can experience the closeness and warmth of heaven’s embrace." Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Be Grateful

A wise holy man once counseled me,
Be grateful and happy whatever may be!
If the fabric of your life tears at the seam,
Be faithful and hopeful, believe in your dream!
If days of great trouble knock at your door,
Trust in your God who is steady and sure!
If loss and death darken the light of your day,
Know that God loves you and earnestly pray!
If loneliness and heartache cause you to groan,
Remember your King and the goodness you’ve known!
If enemies combine and the storm rages on,
Look up like Nephi be loyal and strong!
A wise holy man once counseled me,
Be grateful my daughter and God you will see!

We see daily the differences of life as we journey on. We stand amid a crowd of women and can feel keenly the reality that our personal load is unique. The temptation to compare crosses is one of Satan's oldest plans. In this picture my beautiful daughter Miranda was experiencing the final stages of Leukemia and preparing to go home to her Father and Savior. Ronda, Micah and I were facing the heartbreak of separation ahead of us. We were surrounded by many other women moving and carrying their own personal loads. The poem I wrote below answers the question of what really matters. It isn't what we have to experience, it isn't the weight of our load that matters. What matters is that through Christ we can do all things. As we turn to our Savior we can carry our unique load through His grace. He loves us each personally and desires to make our burdens light. He has done this for me and I testify that He can do the same for you. I hope we will be humble and faithful and live in obedience to his laws, for this enables us to receive the power our Savior desires to share. I rejoice and give thanks for the Mighty One of Israel who has carried my load with me and given me so many reasons to smile! I know I will stand with Miranda again in a body that is incorruptible. I know that because of the atoning sacrifice of the Lamb of God I can partake of the blessing of eternal life and exaltation. I move forward by grace knowing that my Savior Jesus Christ has made my joy possible. Glory be to Father for the matchless gift of HIs divine Son!

Look To See

Each child will experience the refinement of trial,

Not equal or the same we walk our own mile.

Each child is precious and led with care,

God’s perfect love is always there.

Trust in your Father and look to see,

The blessings of heaven, you can be free.

Far greater than adversity and trials is love,

The gift of your Savior sent from above.

In this we are equal, He suffered for all,

His atonement made, to save us from our fall.

Be happy and know your dearest friend,

His mercy and love will never end.

No respecter of persons, he loves each child,

Go now to Him, be humble and mild.

Follow his path, let Him be your way,

For He desires to guide and bless you each day.

I Need Thee Every Hour

1. I need thee ev’ry hour,
Most gracious Lord.
No tender voice like thine
Can peace afford.
I need thee, oh, I need thee;
Ev’ry hour I need thee!
Oh, bless me now, my Savior;
I come to thee!

2. I need thee ev’ry hour;
Stay thou nearby.
Temptations lose their pow’r
When thou art nigh.
I need thee, oh, I need thee;
Ev’ry hour I need thee!
Oh, bless me now, my Savior;
I come to thee!

3. I need thee ev’ry hour,
In joy or pain.
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.
I need thee, oh, I need thee;
Ev’ry hour I need thee!
Oh, bless me now, my Savior;
I come to thee!

4. I need thee ev’ry hour,
Most holy One.
Oh, make me thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son!
I need thee, oh, I need thee;
Ev’ry hour I need thee!
Oh, bless me now, my Savior;
I come to thee!
