Strange Roads

Entering God’s path she moves forward with a smile,
Moving toward her goal, at least for a while.
The mists descend and her hand slips away,
Letting go, she moves another way.
In full pursuit of nothing, she chooses a career,
A strange road her choice, her family in the rear.
A bigger house, lots of stuff and traveling galore,
Her Father looks from heaven, wishing she chose more.
A nanny at the house, memories and fun,
She is at her job, just look what she has won.
The sacred role of motherhood traded for naught,
The Family A Proclamation completely forgot.
Does she know the iron rod is behind her? No!
She hasn't even acknowledged that she ever let it go.

Over in the distance on another broad road,
A man carries his choice, pornography his load.
He justifies his direction as he travels far away,
It's not infidelity, after all I serve and pray.
The lie of the enemy directing his path,
Leading with him toward God’s eternal wrath.

A young man departs from the rod,
And walks away from light and God.
His hours spent in one clear way,
Games and more games every day.
The enemy chuckles happy to see,
Look at him so near to me!

A clinic built by fallen men,
A government endorsing sin.
Children murdered, how far they go,
God's wrath will be the, truth they know.
Satan spreading filth and sin,
They walk with him and think to win.
Laws passed that make the way,
Marriage transformed to include gay.
A promised and choice land gone astray,
With God’s word they will not stay.
The filth of the river is where they go,
The depths of hell the place they'll know.

A side road common holds many feet,
In pursuit of sports; isn’t this neat?
A game on Sunday, absolutely right!
They cannot see diminished light.
Wandering in complete denial,
They worship sports for a little while.
Do they think the rod is in their hand?
As they choose sin, where do they stand?

A woman wanders towards despair,
She seeks for more, but doesn’t share.
Clothes, food, cosmetic surgery,
Oh my goodness look at me!
The enemy keeps her focus clear,
She wanders with him and feels no fear.
Her path leading to a building high,
Large and spacious in the sky.
Pride and vanity in every choice,
She has long forgot her Fathers voice.

Another man can clearly see,
What is wrong with you and me.
His feet walk as he will,
Condemning good, he feels a thrill.
A snare of hatred his chosen way,
He despises another for what they say.
Eager to see the burden of pain,
His cruelty and pride bring a stain.
Does he see the Tree in view,
He thinks he does, it isn’t true.
For far behind him is what he lost,
When he chose dark there was a cost!

A teenage girl gets ready to go,
Her shirt of choice cut to low.
Her skirt clinging very tight,
To her it feels exactly right.
Satan smiles happy to see,
Look she wanders here with me!
Soon her influence makes him shout,
As young men stumble and change route.
The Strength For Youth far behind,
God and light put from her mind.

A mother devotes her time to much,
The gym, books a brand new clutch.
Her children sit and watch T.V.,
A guiding hand they long to see.
The hours come and go each day,
Lost to them their Fathers way.
Her strange road not hers alone,
Without a choice her children groan.
The family fun they could share,
Is lost because she did not care.
Her hands quite full but not with light,
The iron rod out of sight.

A man wanders through the mists to see,
A large building, where he wants to be!
Entering with joy he takes his place,
Leaving behind God's love and grace.
His center himself he wears a grin,
As he points his finger he sees no sin.
Proud he thinks himself quite wise,
He echoes all of the enemies lies.
He will keep the place he chose,
Behold his prison, the lie he knows.

She walks proudly with distain,
No compassion or love remain.
The homeless, the hungry, a desperate plea,
Another’s need she will not see.
In cruelty she condemns and then goes,
The path of hate, the one she knows.
Does she see her own sin,
No she strikes then wears a grin.
Deluded by the enemy,
Blind and deaf, she cannot see.

His filthy path indecency,
Children sold no longer free.
Used and tortured, God hears their call,
Like Sodom this man will surely fall!
Unchastity and violence fill the land,
In the waste of darkness many stand.

The anthem plays our flag is brought,
Respect and reverence He forgot.
A deeper truth within his way,
With God and light he will not stay.
The tree and rod out of view,
Satan’s path he does pursue.
The great building, pride his love,
He will not live with God above.

She walks toward the church, indeed!
Yet her truth is hidden greed.
Her tithes an offering untrue,
Her show of love will never do.
Her path strange, her way wrong,
Yet she thinks, I'm good and strong.
Truth is seen but not by all,
She walks toward a terrible fall.

The TV plays and He sits still,
Unwilling to fulfill God's will.
To stand and do requires work,
His chosen path to stay and shirk.
Others can go and worship but he,
Will stay right here, too tired to see.
That apathy brings no reward,
He is far from his dear Lord.
The fruit and love long forgot,
He sold his soul, and this for naught.

A road of darkness two parents take,
They harm their own and God forsake.
The tender needs of children ignored,
Soon they will see God's holy word.
The rod they refused will testify,
That God and light they did defy.
For in great glory He will return,
And show them what they would not learn.
The rod and way they would not go,
Will hold the justice they will know.

Be wise and hear a warning of love,
Choose the tree and God above.
The strange roads lead to no reward,
The iron rod to your merciful Lord.
Where you stand when the veil is rend,
Will show your truth, enemy or friend.
Those who love him will hold fast,
And keep true joy; peace that lasts.
What is it you now hold?
God and truth, or an empty road?

I spent several days reading about the tree of life in the Book Of Mormon before I wrote the poem, Strange Roads.  This message is very important to me.  I testify that there is only one path to happiness and that path is to follow our Savior Jesus Christ.  He has revealed His way through prophets and apostles.  It is up to us to hold fast to the truth and light that Jesus Christ has sent.  I testify that safety and joy are available to each of us.  I know that the love of God is found in the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.  He is the way to eternal life.  To any who have wandered far from the rod, I call to you today.  I myself know what it is to walk a strange road.  I testify that the tree and the rod remain and you have but to change your direction.  Through the atonement of Jesus Christ you can find peace and healing.  I hope none will delay repenting and turning to God.  Today is the day to grab hold of the rod!  If you want to study the story of the tree of life follow this link. I reccomend that you read all the way through chapter 11! https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/8?lang=eng

I chose to focus on the strange road of working outside of the home today.  Motherhood is a sacred and divine role, so it demands our greatest attention.  I hope the quotes and talk I share today will bring light into your heart and cause you to ponder the path of your feet.  All that I share is given in love.

"Before the world was created, in heavenly councils the pattern and role of women were prescribed. You were elected by God to be wives and mothers in Zion. Exaltation in the celestial kingdom is predicated on faithfulness to that calling.Since the beginning, a woman’s first and most important role has been ushering into mortality spirit sons and daughters of our Father in Heaven.Since the beginning, her role has been to teach her children eternal gospel principles. She is to provide for her children a haven of security and love—regardless of how modest her circumstances might be.In the beginning, Adam was instructed to earn the bread by the sweat of his brow—not Eve. Contrary to conventional wisdom, a mother’s place is in the home!I recognize there are voices in our midst which would attempt to convince you that these truths are not applicable to our present-day conditions. If you listen and heed, you will be lured away from your principal obligations." Ezra Taft Benson

This quote is from a beautiful talk given by a wonderful prophet of God, Ezra Taft Benson.  Here is a link to the entire talk.  http://www.lds.org/general-conference/1981/10/the-honored-place-of-woman?lang=eng

"By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children." "We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets."
