Going Blind

Going blind is something many choose with glee,
Eager to walk in darkness, the truth they won't see.
To them it is freedom to stumble through sin,
Giving up their sight, they were a happy grin.
Groping for happiness amid the mists of despair,
They take hold of emptiness and keep it with care.
The great and spacious building to them is a win,
Blindly they embrace the father of all sin.
Not seeing what they hold they think themselves wise,
Yet within their arms they keep a monster in disguise.
Foolishly they call the enemy their friend,
Holding him close as they journey to the end.
Then the scales they chose fall as they go,
To the light of their King, they chose not to know.
Then with true vision they face what will be,
They will keep forever what they chose to see.

My testimony is best expressed in poetry form.  This poem was written after we found out that Disney had incuded content in Beauty and the Beast that opposed God's law.  The kids and I had planned to see this movie while we were on a family trip to Idaho.  After reviewing the details of the movie we counseled together and decided not to see it.  I am proud of my kids!  They love their Heavenly Father more than anything!  They are following the first great commandment beautifully.  I know they will be blessed for their obedience and love.  This short poem is what I wrote right after we made our choice. Enjoy!
Movie Tickets

There once was a girl given tickets to a show,
Hooray she said gladly I can’t wait to go!
She gathered up treats and chose what to wear,
She talked to her friends, excited to share.
Then sitting down, she read about the new show,
And found with a heavy heart, that she couldn’t go.
For as she read she saw the subtle evil within,
And calling bad good would be a great sin.
If she gave her support she would defy God's light,
Supporting what’s wrong just didn't feel right.
And so she called her friends once again,
Telling them that she wouldn't give in.
Pressure was applied as opinions were given,
But faithfully she stood with her Father in heaven.
Chastity she said is a law from on high,
I will not support this movie, for God they defy.
My place is found in the name that I took,
For the fun of a show, it won’t be forsook.
Ending her calls she knelt in prayer,
Telling her Father how much she did care.
Gently she heard His voice of love,
My daughter you please your Father above.
Many will leave me and defy what I show,
Enjoying a movie as they diminish their glow.
You have stayed with me as you covenanted to do,
Keeping your promise keeps me near to you.
Be happy my daughter for by obedience you'll see,
So much more than a movie, for you will see me.

Tanner's Testimony

I bear my testimony that we should not watch movies that support wickedness.  And that if we watch good wholemsome movies we will find the spirit more abundantly in our lives.  But if we watch movies with filth or vulgarity we will find ourselves desensitized to the whisperings of the spirit.  Brothers and sisters we are always examples, people will look towards us for guidance, be it your children, a good friend, or siblings.  We can be shining examples if we watch good movies.  And by choosing what is right we will have the spirit with us.  I say this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen,

Micah's Testimony

I would like to share my testimony with you concerning God's commandments, and also the subtly of Satan. God's commandments are not suggestions; they are divine law appointed by our all knowing and perfect creator even God the Eternal Father. By breaking His commandments and refusing to repent, we deny ourselves the place we could have received in the kingdom of heaven. God has proclaimed through scriptures and through the words of holy prophets that homosexuality is wrong, and is a serious sin. I testify that every child of God should be treated with love and should not be persectuted for the choices they make; whether or not they are living God's standards. But I also testify that it is a sin to condone and support homosexuality. Satan's desire is that we be passive and unserious about God's commandements. Satan is the Father of all lies and will seek to convince us that it would be unkind or judgemental to take a stand against courruption and hordomes. He weaves this lie to prevent us from bearing our testimonies, making a difference in the world around us, and building the kingdom of God. I add my testimony and proclaim unashamed that God's light is true and eternal. God's proclamation that "neither is the man without the woman, or the woman without the man." will stand forever, and likewise I will stand with my God forever.  I will not support homosexuality, unchastity, or anything immoral that is not in harmony with the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Michelene's Testimony

The young women's theme states, "WE WILL STAND as witnesses of God at all times  and in all things, and in all places”  This promise to stand as a witness always is one each of us made when we took the name of our Savior.  As disciples we are to walk in His way.  We are to stand apart and be a light for our King.  For me the more I love God the easier it is to sacrifice movies, books, music, clothing, anything that keeps me from becoming celestial.  Over the last three years I have thrown out romance novels, completely wiped my music library, and adjusted my media standard to PG or G depending on content.  I now watch, hear and see less of what the world has to offer.  Interestingly I see more, feel more, and know more than I ever have.  This turning from the world and to my God was a new beginning for me.  Brothers and sisters none of us are perfect but we each have divine potential.  I hope we will nuture that potential and live for the highest degree of glory!  We cant think to stand in the presense of God if we are unwilling to become like Him by following His commandments.  Only those who prove worthy through obedience to His laws will regain His presesnce.  Today is a good day to sacrifice any unworthy media.  Today is a good day to show God we love Him by upholding His laws honorably.  I testify that as we follow the standards in the For The Strength of Youth pamphlet we will be blessed!  The spirit will be with us in rich abundance and we will be headed toward the celestial kingdom!

Breana's Testimony

I am sure everyone has heard by now that Disney-a company lauded for its family friendly entertainment-is including an “exclusively gay moment” in the upcoming Beauty and the Beast. This supposedly ground breaking role, encourages society to be more accepting of gay relationships. I personally believe this is not about teaching others to be more accepting-as Disney movies have expressed the theme of looking past differences before. Rather it is another way to push those who believe that romantic relationships should be between a man and a woman to get on board. They don’t want us to accept the gay community they want us to support the gay community.

I believe that Heavenly Father created men and woman to be together. Marriage between the two is sacred and eternal-and is the organization in which families should be raised.

I have read several reviews and explanations on the movie. In the Parent’s Guide to Beauty and the Beast it states that the romance is subtle with a couple gay innuendos thrown in, also showing that Lefou at the end of the movie switches from dancing with a woman to dancing with a man. It is my opinion that no matter how subtle the material, if it violates God’s laws, I cannot watch it.

The pull to the Great and spacious building is often subtle: It’s only a little swearing. It’s only partial nudity. It’s only one gay character. People need to remember that the great and spacious building will take many forms. And some of these forms will be extremely subtle, and appear good-even fun!

People are going to call us to join their “enjoyable” activities. We need to refuse and stand with God even when they inevitably mock and persecute.

I know that my testimony is going to seem harsh to others-even to members of my own faith. That’s fine; I can accept our different opinions. I can accept you; I won’t ever treat you unkindly.  And I want you all to know that I have spoken with men who are gay before-and while our beliefs are different, I never persecuted them for their beliefs; I knew they were sons of our Heavenly Father. I accepted are differing choices but never yielded my belief. If I buy a ticket to Beauty and the Beast I will be yielding that belief and supporting that which I know to be wrong. I would be abandoning my God, and I will never do that.

For the Strength of Youth Entertainment and Media

If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

You live in a day of marvelous technologies that give you easy access to a wide variety of media, including the Internet, mobile devices, video games, television, movies, music, books, and magazines. The information and entertainment provided through these media can increase your ability to learn, communicate, and become a force for good in the world. However, some information and entertainment can lead you away from righteous living. Choose wisely when using media because whatever you read, listen to, or look at has an effect on you. Select only media that uplifts you.

Satan uses media to deceive you by making what is wrong and evil look normal, humorous, or exciting. He tries to mislead you into thinking that breaking God’s commandments is acceptable and has no negative consequences for you or others. Do not attend, view, or participate in anything that is vulgar, immoral, violent, or pornographic in any way. Do not participate in anything that presents immorality or violence as acceptable. Have the courage to walk out of a movie, change your music, or turn off a computer, television, or mobile device if what you see or hear drives away the Spirit.

Pornography in all forms is especially dangerous and addictive. What may begin as an unexpected exposure or a curious exploration can become a destructive habit. Use of pornography is a serious sin and can lead to other sexual transgression. Avoid pornography at all costs. It is a poison that weakens your self-control, destroys your feelings of self-worth, and changes the way you see others. It causes you to lose the guidance of the Spirit and can damage your ability to have a normal relationship with others, especially your future spouse. It limits your ability to feel true love. If you encounter pornography, turn away from it immediately.

If you are involved in pornography, cease now. Seek the help you need. Your parents and bishop can help you take the steps necessary to repent and rid yourself of this destructive habit.

Take care that your use of media does not dull your sensitivity to the Spirit or interfere with your personal relationships with others. Spending long periods of time using the Internet or a mobile device, playing video games, or watching television or other media can keep you from valuable interactions with other people. Be careful that your use of social media does not replace spending time with your family and friends.

Guard your safety and the safety of others by taking great care about what personal information and images you share through technology. Do not communicate anything over the Internet or through texting that would be inappropriate to share in person. Obey the laws that govern sharing music, movies, and other copyrighted items.

If you are not sure whether something is appropriate to watch or listen to, talk to your parents and other adult leaders. The Holy Ghost will give you strength to make correct choices.
