Like A Broken Vessel

I am very grateful for Jeffery R. Holland! He reaches out with true compassion and love. This video is hope building and inspiring! I am grateful for the members who bravely chose to share their stories. I know that they will inspire many to hold on and fight another day.

I wrote a poem to capture some of my feelings about depression and darkness. I struggled with depression as a teenager and nearly gave up. I'm so very grateful that I am still here today! I testify that holding on and battling through the difficult storms of life is worth it! I testify that God is always reaching out waiting for us to take his hand. I testify that as we accept His hand of love we will be able to overcome the darkness we face.

The Grasp

Diminished by the enemies voice I shrink and fade away,
I'm lost within the darkest abyss and there in pain I stay.
My mind can hear the cruel sound of the enemy of my soul,
Pressing down against my heart he will not let me go.
I struggle to find something to pull me from the dark,
Yet in this place of hopelessness my view is grim and stark.
Who can find me here I wonder, for surely I am lost,
Yet in the dark I feel the grasp of the one who paid the cost.
Reaching out He grabs my hand and pulls me back with care,
Within his arms I feel His strength, His power He doth share.
A light of hope burns brighter as I rise above the pain,
I begin to see a new beginning and all that I can gain.
Holding fast to my Savior I keep pressing on,
Determined to overcome and see this battle won!
The enemy does ever seek to pull me back again,
His chant one of hopelessness saying I can’t win.
Looking away from his lies I see the face of God,
Smiling back with joy he says, hold to the iron rod.
I grasp the rod and look forward believing in a better day,
Each step brings me closer to the place I long to stay.
The fight to endure to the end is the most difficult I’ve known,
But I battle with my Savior who makes my weakness strong.
One day if I’m faithful I'll walk in a world of light,
No more to feel the darkness but to stand in my Lords sight!

"Whatever your struggle, my brothers and sisters—mental or emotional or physical or otherwise—do not vote against the preciousness of life by ending it! Trust in God. Hold on in His love. Know that one day the dawn will break brightly and all shadows of mortality will flee. Though we may feel we are “like a broken vessel,” as the Psalmist says,we must remember, that vessel is in the hands of the divine potter. Broken minds can be healed just the way broken bones and broken hearts are healed. While God is at work making those repairs, the rest of us can help by being merciful, nonjudgmental, and kind." Jeffery R. Holland

The Hope of God's Light

"There may be some among you who feel darkness encroaching upon you. You may feel burdened by worry, fear, or doubt. To you and to all of us, I repeat a wonderful and certain truth: God’s light is real. It is available to all! It gives life to all things. It has the power to soften the sting of the deepest wound. It can be a healing balm for the loneliness and sickness of our souls. In the furrows of despair, it can plant the seeds of a brighter hope. It can enlighten the deepest valleys of sorrow. It can illuminate the path before us and lead us through the darkest night into the promise of a new dawn.This is “the Spirit of Jesus Christ,” which gives “light to every man that cometh into the world.” Nevertheless, spiritual light rarely comes to those who merely sit in darkness waiting for someone to flip a switch. It takes an act of faith to open our eyes to the Light of Christ." Dieter F. Uchtdorf

When thoughts of discouragement and hurt weigh you down,
When you feel you are nothing, and joy can’t be found.
When giving up feels like the only thing to do,
Come to me my daughter, I’m reaching out to you.
You are beautiful, you are cherished, and you are never alone;
I love you and I stand by you as you fight to make it home.
The Holy Ghost is whispering but you must seek to hear His voice;
Despair, hurt, and heartache are not your only choice.
Cast off the words of the enemy of your soul,
Kneel in prayer my daughter, that true love can be known.
Look beyond the moment, look beyond despair,
Look into eternity, for your mansion I prepare.
Believe that you can make it and fight with all your heart.
Put on the armor of God, then stand and do your part.
Each day you will begin to battle evil again,
But strengthened by the spirit you will always win.
You are beautiful, you are cherished, and you are never alone;
I love you and I stand by you as you fight to make it home.

Just around the corner!

Sometimes waiting for the joy we will reach just around the corner feels impossible. But with Christ we can do the impossible. We can hold on and find the faith to overcome doubt, hurt and fear. I testify that as we feed our faith with the scriptures, temple service, keeping the commandments of God, and serving our fellow men, we will find the power we need to overcome the darkness of this world! Good things are just around the corner: so hold on!:)
